Why SuperFutures?

SuperFutures is needed to prepare our youth for the real, working world. Not only is it more complex, it’s more competitive. Yet, we know students have amazing talents. They just need the right opportunities and guidance to channel their energy so that they can create successful futures for themselves and for those around them. Here are just a few of the alarming statistics and comments from real families underscoring the need for SuperFutures:

The Real Deal:

  • Real fears about getting into college -- 69% of high schoolers and 79% of parents say they are very concerned about getting into college (SuperFutures)
  • Sadly, career centers at public schools especially are not equipped to provide one-on-one guidance on what it takes to get into college and be successful in work with the typical student to counselor ratio 1,000 to 1 (Los Angeles Times)
  • The typical family spends $50,000 to $100,000 on college (College Board) and yet many students graduate with no clear career path or confidence in their ability to succeed.
  • Parents surveyed say their biggest concern – above getting into college or paying for it -- is “ensuring their teen is prepared for the real world.” (SuperFutures)
  • USA Today reported that the majority of teens were forced to give up the job of their dreams due to debt and the economy and take other jobs that may not help them build a SuperFuture
  • Some 50% of high school students would like to start a business or charity (SuperFutures) and 78% believe their age can create a positive impact in their communities (Harris)
  • Students are now operating in a more competitive and complex global environment. Those able to work successfully in it will be the ones who will get into the college of their choice, successfully work in jobs or start businesses, and live a life they dreamed.
