Dick Ferguson
Former Chief Operating Officer, Cox Radio and Board Member of the National Association of Broadcasters
Dick Ferguson, like many young people, didn’t have perfect grades. In fact, he was a “C” student. But by focusing on his real passion – radio – Dick went on to become one of the nation’s top radio entrepreneurs and executives. To help pay his college tuition, Dick worked as a disc jockey at WPTR in Albany, New York. He then went on to hold several key roles in radio, including Sales Manager for WNHC Radio in New Haven, Connecticut and General Sales Manager of WERE Radio in Cleveland, Ohio. Dick then became President of Katz Broadcasting Company, one of the leaders in the radio industry. But the entrepreneurial bug bit Dick, so, armed with his sales and management skills, he started his own group of radio stations under NewCity Communications. As Founder & CEO of NewCity, Dick grew the business until it was acquired by Cox Radio, one of the nation’s largest owners of radio stations. The publicly traded Cox Radio named Dick its Chief Operating Officer and also a member of its Board of Directors.Dick is a past president of the Connecticut Broadcasters Association and served on the board of the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB). In 2002, Dick received the National Radio Award from the NAB and, in 1998, received the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Hopkins School in New Haven.Dick is active in community and industry organizations. He is on the board of the Bridgeport Public Education Fund where he was Chairman from 2004-2005.
